About me
Tatiana Rusanovska is an expressive artist, designer and award-winning illustrator who is inspired by her home country’s rich cultural heritage. Born and raised in Kremenchuk, Ukraine, she always liked to sketch as a child and was profoundly influenced by her grandmother, Taisia, who taught her to draw flowers. Tatiana continued her journey into the art world at the local Art School, where she developed her creative skills. Her early works quickly gained recognition in regional contests, setting the stage for a promising career.
Education at the College of Applied Arts and Design (now Mykhaylo Boychuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative-Applied Arts and Design) opened up new horizons for Tatiana as she perfected her skills in classical painting and design. The influence of artists such as Heorhiy Narbut, Kateryna Bilokur, Rachel Ruysch and Van Gogh became evident in her works, which she showcased in various exhibitions and festivals. After graduating with Honours in 1993. Tatiana pursued a design career but remained dedicated to painting. Although working primarily in monotype, her various techniques also include watercolour paintings and batik and often feature floral themes characterised by creating volume with a unique use of colour
Since 2003, Tatiana has lived in Toronto, Canada where she works as an illustrator and graphic designer. Her adopted country’s natural beauty and cultural diversity inspired her to continue drawing, and helped her integrate into her new home’s community. During the mid-2000s, Tatiana’s works were accepted into juried exhibitions in Toronto, Ontario and the USA. Her “Lady Spring” illustration won 1st Place in the American Design Award Contest in 2006, a testament to her exceptional talent.
In 2007, Tatiana co-founded Altan Design with Alexey Makhinko, perfecting her craft as a designer. In 2020, she channelled her creativity into her silk scarf project, Ruta Textiles. Through intricate textile patterns, she blends traditional techniques with contemporary aesthetics. Tatiana joined the SOYRA Artist Association in 2023 and continues to find joy and excel in her artistic calling.

Don’t be afraid to switch to new work if you can’t finish the first, as one of my teachers has said: “If you are drawing a square many times and can’t get it right – take a blank sheet of paper and start drawing a circle. Then you will get your square right!”
